yeah, that's a way we ck while assembling - turn by hand to feel problems. The more "in there' the harder, but just crank, pistons 5 - 7lbs? timing set too 8 -10? head valves 12? I don't know. I use the tq wrench for head bolts, rod bolts, lug nuts (once back on the ground), rear ends, not a lot. I know I weigh 200 lbs so change wrench length and go soft, easy, medium & hard where. needed, bolt sz...
I like the way ur goin tho. On long dormant motors, so as to not bend push rods, etc I might put a tq wrench on the HB if one is having lots of trouble just to geta idea if dissasembly is needed. "How stuck is that puppy?" 30/50 lb above I figure "this is 1 I don'r wanna jump start to bring back...
Thanks Matt, I obviously have something amiss, the head and cam are not installed, the crank turned easily before I installed the rod/pistons. headed back into my shop to dissemble and recheck clearances
I don't know a spec. With no spark plugs installed, it should turn very easily until installed. If it is a manual trans, with the trans installed, you won't be able to turn it over by hand with the clutch engaged. An automatic won't matter because of the torque converter
